ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Sherneice Gatewood’s journey to becoming a beacon of hope for survivors of domestic violence began with her own harrowing experience at the age of 18. Trapped in an abusive relationship, she lived with her abuser in a small, hidden room where she was forced to endure unimaginable conditions. Her abuser’s mother was unaware of her presence, and Sherneice was confined to using a 5-gallon bucket as a makeshift restroom, which her abuser would discard. The physical, emotional, and psychological toll was immense, but it was a moment of desperation that ultimately ignited her courage to leave. One night, after a brutal attack, Sherneice lay on the floor, physically and emotionally shattered. Her 3-year-old child, too young to understand the depth of the pain, tried to pull her up off the floor. That moment of clarity shattered the chains of silence and fear that had held her captive. Sherneice made the brave decision to leave the relationship, prioritizing her and her child’s safety. It was the first step toward reclaiming her life and breaking free from the cycle of abuse. Sherneice’s healing journey began with therapy, where she found the strength to confront her trauma and rebuild her sense of self-worth. Through this process, she discovered a newfound purpose—to be a voice for other women who felt voiceless, just as she had once been. Her resilience and determination to overcome her past set her on a path of transformation and empowerment.

Stacey Marius

Chief Operating Officer

Stacey Marius, she received her Master’s in Human Services from a HBCU at Lincoln University. In 1998, Stacey quickly learned that she had calling to continue the legacy that her mother started which was working with single mothers. She started her own non-profit organization which was named after her mother to emphasize the need of high-risk youth. She became the founder and CEO of the Elaine D. Marius Corporation. TAPPS was the acronym for Teen, Adolescent, Pregnancy, Prevention and youth Services against teen pregnancy through workshops and peer mentoring. Through the success of the program, Stacey opened her own daycare in 2015 for newborns to age twelve. The licensed daycare was designed to care for the children of teen mothers while they continue their education or employment. Working as a Casemanager, in Viginia Beach and Atlanta Georgia, it was in Atlanta Georgia, working at Mary Hall Freedom House she received her CARES Certificate. Her training in Substance Abuse gained her the experience working with mental health, homeless women, and families. Upon completion of the program, she recognized that she had the credentials to further her goals to assist a broader population in other facilities. A new chapter in her career Stacey began working at the Board of Elections which she learned at the beginning of adulthood the importance of the electoral process. Joining a political club, she was able to expand her fundraising and event planning skills at that time. After working at the BOE she was able to work with several elected officials with the state assembly. Although recently retired as the Director of Constituent Services she continues to work part- time with a NYS AssemblyMember. Her career spanned over fifteen years in the Human Service field working with the most challenging, vulnerable populations which is her most awarding and fulling positions. Currently Stacey holds various volunteer positions on different committee boards in her community. Her primary goal is to give back to her community through outreach and her non-profit business to the best of her ability.

Melissa P

Participant in 6-week domestic violence DV curriclum.

My name is Melissa Peña, a community advocate for women and children in the areas of financial literacy and domestic violence awareness. In June 2020, I successfully completed the We Are Phenomenal Women Inc. 6-week domestic violence (DV) curriculum. This was such a fundamental introductory course into the issue of domestic violence in our communities. Mrs. Sherneice Gatewood-Alli was an extraordinary facilitator who taught us the spectrum of domestic violence issues ranging from: the history of DV, signs of DV, cycles of abuse in DV, and even trends of DV increases during the Covid-19 pandemic. What I appreciated most in taking this course were the intimate sessions we shared in confidentiality of our experiences with domestic violence and strategic ways in creating healthier relational boundaries personally. This was an intense and powerful course which challenged any biased myths of DV and provided amazing resources to services in NY State. I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in domestic violence issues and making an impact for change in their own community.

I am honored to write this letter on behalf of We Are Phenomenal Woman’s CEO Mrs. Sherneice Gatewood-Alli. For many years she has demonstrated excellence and servitude with her efforts to educate the masses about domestic violence prevention. Sherneice has worked tirelessly within the Harlem community as a support to those who have been victimized by domestic violence by way of support groups, workshops, and assisting victims with informative tools to get out of domestic violence. Sherneice is a beacon of light, hope, and inspiration, who has spoken to women living in domestic violence shelters. She's donated toys during Christmas time to domestic violence shelters as well. Part of her servitude in her role stems from her being a survivor of domestic violence, yet not having the resources and support that she offers. This support could have gotten her out of being a victim sooner. Mrs. Gatewood-Alli believes strongly that if she is a survivor anyone else can also become one too. Sherneice offers safe effective tools to guide woman out of domestic violence and into a safe secure environment, which will lead to a fulfilled life

On February 9th, 2020, Mrs. Sherneice Alli, CEO of We Are Phenomenal Women invited 10+ women from my shelter for an awesome event, love yourself, that's how the women from the shelter identified the event. They were educated and respected. Sherneice provided nice gifts for the ladies at the shelter, a Valentine's Day celebration. They shared their experience of the event with the other women at the shelter. All the women had a wonderful time, and it was truly appreciated. In May 2021 Mrs. Alli along with the Circle of Brothers provided over 50 gifts to the shelter for the women collectively for a Mother's Day celebration, this brought tears to our women eyes and their shared heart felt stories of having children but not having a relationship with them or not knowing where they were due to being street homeless. Sherneice has a big positive impact on the community and the underserved population. We look forward to continuing our collective relationship with her and Our collective relationship with Mrs. Alli, from the bottom of our hearts thank you for the services you and your organization provide, it is phenomenal
